No use crying over spilled dishes giveaway

One of the things I was the most nervous about before Renegade craft fair was "what if I break something" this fear was quite intensified by the fact that they placed my booth right by a soccer field (the ball made it into the booth quite a few times...) and a tornado alert in Brooklyn.

As it happened, nothing broke at the fair, however, upon returning to the safety of the studio, I managed to break 3 dishes! a glass, a Japanese cup and a coffee cup, which left this Saucer all alone in the world...

So I decided to see if I can find it a happy home and throw a giveaway raffle! it's a very sweet saucer with birds on a pink background.

New mugs

Some projects happens because i plan them in my mind for a while until they ripe and I go, get supplies, make the time to work on them and follow my plan step by step.

Some project happens because I found something inspiring or a cool new material or just cause my hands were bored.

I guess this was a combination of both, I had the idea of making a tea or coffee set with a bunch of cups and not just one or two and have them all with similar pattern but different colors. Somehow it looked like a too large project and I never got around to it.
Then a few days ago, I was in the salvation army store getting some cloths and idea for a shoot tomorrow, I found a set of 5 large mugs, each was 79 cents! I just couldn't leave them in the store. They very rarely have matching pieces, so I was happy to take advantage of those.

Then it was just about putting the time into it, so yesterday, in the first work days I had since I got sick I just set all day and made those. I really couldn't be happier with how they came out! secretly I hope that one person would decide to splurge and buy them all, I love how those look together.

New Drawings

Those were done today as a sketch to a submission I want to make for a group show in a gallery I really like in Williamsburg, though the images I had in mind are totally different then those, it's still nice to see that the composition I had in mind works and so now, I can start working on a 4 times larger version of this (scary, but what can you do).

Those sketches were supposed to be a quicky drawing, in fact, I originally prepared 4 surfaces and not just 2, pretty positive I can finish all of them tonight, however, it turned out to be far more time consuming and detailed work then I expected it to be and so, only 2 done so far.

The past month of my life felt very dark with my father in law in the hospital going through massive cancer treatments and a stem cell transplant. Yesterday we heard the good news that he'll probably be going home after the weekend! I think that a part of what this drawing is all about is having this great ray of hope cutting though the darkness.

Vases and thought

We are having a difficult day, actually it started really well, I woke up feeling more healthy then I have in 2 weeks, and we were planning of submitting a PDF presentation I made the day before, Ned was making phone calls and sending it out in e-mails to a bunch of magazines.

Later we went into the city for a meeting and grocery shopping in a cool health store. When we got back, Ned went to the gym and I rested, feeling sick again. When Ned got back he was really sad and scared, this whole presentation thing made him really stressed out, he was laying in bed being sad and fell asleep. He's still sleeping now 5 hours later.

So I spend the evening alone, feeling sort of abandoned and lonely, I'm working on a new Suite of Tarot decks, but I just wanted to do something fun and unchanging so I made those little vases.

Wide

This weeks Illustration Friday word was Wide.

It made me think of something that happened in the trip we did on the motorcycle. We were riding on the blue ridge parkway and in this beautiful very privet forest road, we saw a strange bird that looked like a chicken standing on the road, when it saw us, it flew away and then I realized it was a vulture, feeding on some road kill. It was very ugly when it was standing on the road, but then when it spread it's wings it became huge and beautiful.

It made me think of a poem by Ursula K Leguin that goes:

Only in silence the word
only in dark the light
only in dying life:
bright the hawk's flight on the empty sky.

A lot in the trip made me think of how big the world is, including that very privet and sort of small moment of seeing that huge vulture fly away.
