A story and a giveaway

messup

I had so much stuff to do today! between a website I'm designing, a huge project Ned volunteered us to do and needs to be finished in a week, another website for a friend's band, packing some Etsy packages, making stuff for the shop, and a Special order for Ned's Mom and wanting to draw at least a couple of drawings today - the day seemed too short from when it was starting.

I decided to start with Ned's mom order, it the most fun project out of the bunch, and I could do it at a coffee shop and just tuned out from all the stress for a bit, before I dive in. A friend of her's just became a grandmother, and Ned's mom wanted a painting made specially for the new granddaughter.

The granddaughter have 5 different names, one of them is Rose, and one of them is Yael, which in Hebrew means a Capra, an animal sort of like a dear, so I decided to draw a Capra and some roses and write all the names on the drawings. Ned went home to do some phone calls, and I went to Blackbird Paurlor to work on the new painting.

It took about an hour and a half, then I put it aside on the chair next to mine, and started working on a second drawing for the day, feeling really great, that at least on of my tasks for the day is already done.

2 minutes later, a woman who got up from the table close to where I was sitting knocked a whole full bottle of water on the painting! the watercolor and pen all swirled together making a puddle of gray water that was dripping on the floor. The woman apologized a million times, and asked if I was going to sell the painting, offering to pay for it, but I felt like I just wanted her to get out of there. I blotched the painting with some paper and left it to dry till Ned got there. Still hoping to fix it, but after it was dry it was obvious that it just won't do.

The part that got destroyed the most was the names, they got totally smeared and became half not legible.

I tried to paint over it later at home, while working on a second painting for the granddaughter.

And so, I decided to give the blotch version, that i rather like now as a free givaway and a reminder to all of us that sometimes, we mess up and that's just how life goes.

For a chance to win this painting, leave a comment to this post and tell me about the last time you messed up, so I don't feel like I'm the only klutz in town...

I will raffle the winner on November 1st.

I'm a very careful person and I don't usually break things, but there's something strange about coffee pots! First I broke my mom's coffee pot. It was an accident. It just jumped right off my hands and got smashed on the floor. Then I went home and broke mine when i was washing dishes. Later I had to borrow a coffee maker from my boyfriend but.. you guess what happened!
The irony is that I don't even drink coffee.

I don't know what this looked like before the stranger's spill, but I think it looks beautiful as is. One of my latest art mess ups is with a piece of pottery sculpture. I made a little sculpture with long thin "antenna-like" things poking out of it. I bisqued fired the piece, but before I could glaze it, I put it in a box with other things and all the antenna-like spikes broke off. I don't know if I should just fire it anyway or throw it away.

I feel frustrated and sad just reading your story. But it's really special that you decided not to let it ruin your day and turned it into this instead.

I feel like I've had so many mess-ups lately. From making a hole in my tights as I was putting them on this morning, to texting Kevin a few days ago, to saying something that maybe I shouldnt have said to a client last week... I think every day has a million little mess ups. But I think I do just as many things right too.

I am making a doll for a friend, and I forgot to sew in the ears before I sewed the head together. Now he will have to either go earless, or have them attached at the end.
It wouldnt be so bad if this was the FIRST time I made this mistake, but I have done the same thing at least 3 times with other dolls.
Ugh!

Your "botched" artwork is gorgeous as always, Aya.

I spent three hours this morning trying to figure out why my code wasn't working before realizing I was trying to compile the wrong code. Oops!

I think your capra is lovely, it reminds me of a children's book I used to have...

I still think it's a beautiful painting. My big mess up of the day is that I forgot to set my alarm on loud this morning & slept through it, waking up at 2!!!! I guess I really needed the sleep?

Anyway, life without mess ups would be a boring one and there wouldn't be this giveaway:)

Thanks for doing this!

It's beautiful!
I love the saying. It's so true.
I need to have that saying as a mantra, because I've always been SOOO afraid of making a mistake, that I rarely take any risks. I would be much more productive if I could let go...

The last time I messed up badly - I burned a turkey for Thanksgiving!! That was incredibly embarrassing but I was lucky that everyone else was so nice about the situation.
Thank you for the giveaway :)

You're not alone!!! Be sure!!! The last time I messed up... yesterday night. I was looking at a woman and thinking taht she was equal to one taht I know. I thought she was a twin sister perhaps... When I discovered she was the one I knew it was too late because I didn't say hello to her before... I think she thought I was so stpid...

I love the botched painting! Doesn't look like there was ever a problem.

My latest goof up - I was painting a design project for class, and left a tray of wet paint on the kitchen floor, next to my dogs food bowl. The next part you may be able to guess, but when I walked into the kitchen later there were paw prints all over the floor. Luckily it didn't get on the carpet in the living room!

Thanks for the chance to win!
